Arrange the loading space early
A no-parking zone for your move: application and preparation
Where the moving vehicle can load belongs near the start of your planning. Check the space needed, local requirements and responsibilities at both addresses. Applying, receiving the authority’s decision and putting up signs in time are separate steps.

1. Check the actual loading location first
Walk the route from the entrance to the proposed vehicle position. An empty space in a photograph does not establish that your chosen vehicle may legally load there or has enough room to work. Discuss narrow sections, doors, kerbs and any tail lift with the moving provider.
Distinguish public street space from a private courtyard or parking space. For private land, agree access and use with the authorised person and check any additional rules. A landlord’s consent does not replace a required authority decision for the street.
Do not reserve public street space with chairs, boxes or bins. Section 32 of the German Road Traffic Regulations prohibits placing objects on the road where they could endanger or obstruct traffic.
2. Prepare a separate information sheet for each address
Check both collection and delivery, even for a short move within one city. You might have a usable courtyard at the old home but need arrangements on the street at the new one. Match the loading window at each address to the moving schedule.
The preparation list below is an editorial suggestion. The local process determines the information, plans and evidence you must submit. Give the authority only the information needed for that process.
- Town, street, building number and exact entrance; side of the street and proposed section.
- Moving date and the start and end of use at each address.
- Vehicle details and the length required, agreed with the team; include working space for loading.
- Existing signs, parking areas, driveways, cycle routes and possible roadworks.
- A clear sketch and relevant photographs if needed.
- An available contact person and someone who can answer questions in their absence.
4. Plan application and sign-installation deadlines separately
Do not copy deadlines from another town without checking. Follow current local requirements and the decision issued for your case.
Work backwards from moving day. The advance period for installing signs is not the application processing time. Booking sign hire early does not replace the authority’s decision either. If time is short, ask what arrangements are still possible.
A local example shows why checking matters: Wiesbaden’s service page gives a usual processing time of two weeks, while its linked leaflet dated 21 August 2025 gives seven days. Checked on 23 September 2026. Do not rely on the shorter figure without confirmation for your application.
| Step | Record in your calendar | What may still be unresolved |
|---|---|---|
| Prepare the application | Your own target before the local submission deadline | Vehicle, location or supporting document missing |
| Receive the decision | Time for review and questions | Approved location or hours differ from your request |
| Arrange the signs | Installation according to the order and required advance period | Evidence, checks and collection need an owner |
| Carry out the move | Exact hours covered by the arrangement | Delay or an occupied loading space |
5. Agree in writing who handles each step
“No-parking zone included” is not a clear scope of work. Ask the quote to name the address, period and services covered. An application acknowledgement is not approval, and approval alone does not mean the signs are in place.
When the decision arrives, compare its address, length and hours with your plan. Clarify changes to the moving date, vehicle or location in advance. Do not relocate the signs or extend the displayed period on your own initiative.
| Task | Record the responsible person or company | Keep the result |
|---|---|---|
| Application and follow-up questions | You or an explicitly commissioned provider | Reference number and decision |
| Signs, installation and removal | Confirmed sign service or responsible provider | Agreed dates and scope |
| Installation evidence and required notification | Assign clearly before installation | Required records and their submission |
| Checks and contact on moving day | An available contact person | Documents and local contact details at hand |
6. Separate authority fees from service charges
Ask for a clear breakdown rather than a supposed nationwide package price. Hesse’s portal says fees vary by municipality, type and duration. Confirm the amount for your case.
Application assistance, sign hire, delivery, installation, documentation and collection may be bundled differently. Check what is covered at both addresses, whether additional permissions cost extra and what happens if the date changes.
- Authority fees: included, separate or merely paid on your behalf?
- Sign service: which address, length, hire period and collection time?
- Changes: charges and deadlines for rescheduling or cancellation?
- Moving service: how are waiting time and longer carrying routes charged?
7. If the space is occupied on moving day
Have the decision, required installation evidence and agreed contact details ready. First check the location, date and hours. If access is obstructed, contact the responsible local service and tell the moving team. Do not arrange the removal of someone else’s vehicle on your own authority.
Wiesbaden’s leaflet warns that clearing an obstruction can take time and that immediate official intervention is not an entitlement. Agree a lawful alternative plan with the moving provider. Having a document does not guarantee a clear loading space at the exact minute you need it.
An empty space also does not settle every access question. Restricted areas, such as pedestrian zones, may need additional permission; Wiesbaden explicitly identifies this. Clarify the intended use before the vehicle enters.
8. Finish with this short check
There is more to final preparation than closing the boxes. At each relevant address, check that the approved arrangements, actual signs and team schedule match.
umzughilfen.de refers enquiries to independent partners. The specifically named partner provides the quote, enters into the contract and carries out the agreed services; invoicing and payment are directly between you and that provider. Permission is decided by the responsible authority. umzughilfen.de remains responsible for its own referral activity and data processing.
- Both addresses checked; necessary applications and additional permissions clarified.
- Location, length, period and vehicle compared with the decision.
- Sign installation, required evidence and necessary submission confirmed.
- Contact person, action if the space is occupied and possible waiting time discussed.
- Removal or return of signs after use arranged.
Questions about temporary no-parking zones
Can I submit the application myself?
In Hesse, applications can in principle be made personally or through a commissioned company. Check the local requirements for installing signs as well. Handling the application does not automatically include installation, evidence or collection.
How many days before the move should I start?
Ask separately about the application lead time and advance sign-installation period for the address. Allow time for follow-up questions. A deadline quoted for another town is not a reliable rule for your move.
Do I need a zone at both addresses?
Assess collection and delivery separately. A suitable private loading space can change the situation at one address. The relevant authority confirms how many permissions are needed and whether applications can be combined.
Does permission let the moving vehicle stop anywhere?
No. Check the location, period, purpose and, where relevant, vehicle covered by the decision. Existing restrictions, pedestrian zones and other access rules need to be clarified explicitly.
