Business move: update your address on your website and Google

The furniture has arrived, but a customer is waiting outside the old entrance. Prevent that gap with one approved address record, clear publication dates and a test of the actual journey. This guide covers digital contact and location information when a business moves within Germany.

1. Agree the address and list everywhere it appears

Create an approved record of the actual business name, street, building number, unit details, postcode, town, working telephone number and website. Record separately when customers can start visiting the new premises, which entrance they should use and whether opening or appointment times will change.

Search your own website for the old street, postcode and phone number. Add the profiles and documents customers actually use. One person coordinates the list; each account has a responsible owner and a backup. The table is an editorial worksheet, not a record of changes already made.

2. Make your own website the reliable reference point

Check the contact page, footer, homepage, genuine location and service pages, and downloads still in circulation. Have affected mandatory business disclosures reviewed separately. This digital workflow does not replace trade, register or authority notifications or an assessment of what your business needs to report.

A move announcement needs clear dates: until when customers can visit the old premises and from when they can use the new entrance. Do not describe premises that have not opened as already available for visits. A concise note on the contact page is more useful than conflicting messages across several banners.

  • Check every offered language and the mobile view. Address images and downloadable directions may still show the old details.
  • Open the embedded map, directions button and linked booking page separately. Changing visible text does not automatically change those destinations.
  • If your website uses LocalBusiness data, check that its address and hours are accurate. Do not invent additional branches.
  • A new street address alone does not require a new page URL or domain. Keep a URL if the page still serves its purpose. If URLs really change, plan appropriate redirects and internal link updates separately.

3. Carefully update the existing Google Business Profile

For a continuing business, start by editing its existing profile; do not create a second one simply because it is moving. Google requires genuine locations. An online-only business is not automatically eligible for a profile.

Use the authorised account to open the profile and review its location details under “Edit profile”. Google describes the “Location” and “Business location” fields. Check the address and map marker; a verified business must be verified again after its address changes.

A service-area business that does not receive customers hides its address in the profile and maintains an appropriate service area. A virtual office does not replace an eligible real location. Check the Google guidelines against your actual operating model.

  • Review current visiting hours, the telephone number and the link to the relevant contact or location page.
  • Record the edit or verification status. Open the public listing too: saving is not the final acceptance check.
  • If photographs still show the old entrance, add current exterior and entrance photographs you own, without disclosing personal information.

4. Update profiles, messages and frequently used files

Work through your inventory in order of customer use: frequently used maps and appointment bookings first, then social profiles, directories and other entries. Record where a platform has to review changes. Do not send account credentials to someone simply to get an entry corrected.

Look beyond the website: new quotations, email signatures, automatic replies, booking and collection confirmations, current price lists and presentations. Do not indiscriminately overwrite historical invoices or contractual records; the responsible team decides how existing documents should be handled.

  • Tell customers with existing appointments how to reach the correct entrance. A public post will not reliably reach everyone who has booked.
  • For active advertising, check the destination page and the area customers can actually visit. Address information in the advert and after the click should agree.
  • Check flyers and business cards still being handed out. Scan the printed QR code; if its target URL stays the same, updating that page may be enough.

5. Coordinate publication with actual customer visits

Planning example, not a customer case: transport ends on Friday, but visits start on Monday. Communications identify Monday as the first day for customer visits.

The furniture transport date, postal availability and first customer appointment may be different. Record them separately. The schedule below is a planning suggestion: platform reviews can take longer and cannot be treated as one switch that changes everything at an exact minute.

During preparationPrepare notices and an up-to-date contact page; contact people with upcoming appointments.Customers understand the date and who to contact.

At the first customer visitsTest directions, phone and enquiry route from outside the organisation. Each error has an owner and a next review time.
After the moveSearch for the old address and follow up pending platform requests.Close an item only after another public check.

6. Test the whole customer journey

Ask a second person to test without using an administrator view. Start with the business name and a link already in circulation. On a phone, check whether directions lead to the actual entrance. Report incorrect routing to the relevant map provider; a correct postal address does not resolve every access error.

  • Agree test enquiries internally, label them clearly and use minimal data. Do not use real customer contact details for a trial.
  • For each problem, record the URL, observation, owner and next check time. Close the list only when the customer journey works again.

7. Commission website work separately if needed

Missing access, many language versions or conflicting location pages can justify a separate website review. Define the job: identify address references, agree updates, check publication and document the outcome. Agree any SEO work separately; a new address does not guarantee particular search rankings.

You can ask Salestudia about SEO support for a location change — German-language service page. This optional service is separate from transport; agree scope, account permissions and timing directly. This link is not an independent recommendation or a promise of Google rankings.

8. Plan physical transport as its own job

Umzughilfen is a marketing and referral service based in Idstein for relocation enquiries in the Rhine-Main area. You can request the selection of an independent partner for a business move. The quotation, contract, work, invoice and payment are directly with the partner named in advance. Umzughilfen retains its own referral and data-processing obligations.

Include your inventory, access at both addresses, preferred time windows and planned start of operations in the transport enquiry. Website or Google profile updates form a separate scope only when expressly agreed with the provider responsible for that work.

Questions about your business address online

Do I need a new Google Business Profile when moving?

For a continuing business, start by updating its existing profile. A move alone is not a reason to create a duplicate. Check exceptional situations, such as a genuinely different business or a move to another country, separately with Google.

Can every business display its new address on Google?

No. Profile eligibility and address visibility depend on the actual activity and whether customers visit. Online-only businesses and service-area businesses without customer reception have different requirements; consult the Google guidelines.

Must a new street address mean a new website URL?

Not by itself. You can update a contact page that still serves its purpose at the same URL. If you also change pages or the domain, handle redirects as a separate project.

Is saving the change in the management account enough?

No. Check the public view, map link, current contact page and actual enquiry route. Assign responsibility for outstanding verification or review steps and follow them through.

What if customers still find the old address?

Ask which link or document they used, add it to the inventory and correct the responsible source. Contact customers with important upcoming visits directly. Search results and platform reviews do not change at a guaranteed fixed time.
